Phillipe Starck era style Costes lounge armchair bentwood ply back 80s 90s

This is a lovely vintage compact armchair, clearly made in the style of the Starck Costes chair. However this one has a cut from the iconic hole in the back up to the top. It also has 2 back legs, rather than the one on the original. It is also a little smaller than the original.

Interestingly it’s not a new era replica, of which there are plenty - this one is about 20/30 years old and has been made to last. Strong frame and good quality materials.

There are signs of wear and age - peeling and small spots of rust on the legs, chips and scratches on the ply back and small issues on the seat. However it is still very comfy, looks great and is a lovely curiosity.

Amazing and influential design from Philippe Starck, the Costes chair has become a classic.
